This study determined the teaching strategies employed in Physical Education and the development of skill-related fitness among college students in Batangas Province. Specifically, it sought information on the extent of utilization of teaching strategies employed in the development of skill-related fitness relative to circuit training exercises, game-based learning, and rhythmic activities. In addition, it also identified the level of development of skill-related fitness among college students as assessed by PE teachers in terms of agility, balance, coordination, power, speed, and reaction time.
Moreover, it sought to find the relationship between the extent of utilization of teaching strategies and the level of development of skill-related fitness. It also identified the challenges encountered by PE teachers in implementing various teaching strategies to develop skill-related fitness. Lastly, the study prepared fitness training activities to develop the skill-related fitness among college students so that they could achieve overall fitness.
The study used a descriptive research design involving 102 PE teachers from colleges and universities in Batangas Province. Data were collected through a researcher-made questionnaire and unstructured interviews, and analyzed using weighted mean, composite mean, frequency, ranking, and Pearson’s r correlation coefficient.
The study found that circuit training exercises and game-based learning were highly utilized, while rhythmic activities were moderately utilized. Also, students showed high development in agility, balance, coordination, power, and speed, but only moderate development in reaction time. Aside from that, a significant relationship was identified between the extent of utilization of teaching strategies and the level of development of skill-related fitness. PE teachers also encountered challenges, especially large class sizes that limit the use of individualized assessment and feedback. As a result, fitness training activities were developed to further enhance students’ skill-related fitness and promote overall health.
