Teachers' Values in Public Secondary Schools in Imus, Cavite: Basis for a Professional Development Program

Abstract

 This study determined the extent of manifestation of the values of the teachers in the seven (7) public secondary schools in Imus, Cavite, along intellectual, social, spiritual, and economic dimensions. It also looked into the dominant and less dominant values as well as the problems encountered in the manifestation of the above-stated values. The following were the salient findings of the study: The extent of manifestation of the values of teachers was moderate along intellectual, social, spiritual and economic dimensions; There was no significant differences between the perceptions of teachers and students in the effect of manifestation of values of fourth year students; The dominant and less dominant values manifested were as follows: there were no dominant intellectual values, all were less dominant; two spiritual values, namely, fourth and forging/compassion were dominant. All the others were less dominant; Four (4) economic values, namely, thrift, value of time, hard work were resourcefulness, were dominant all the other were less dominant; four (4) economics values, namely thrift, value of time, hard work and resourcefulness are dominant all the others were less dominant and The degree of seriousness of problems encountered was moderate along intellectual values; moderate along social values; Not serious along spiritual value; serious along economic values and the plan of action to enhance the manifestation of values of teachers has been proposed. The conclusion based on the findings of the study are as follows: Most of the values along intellectual, social, spiritual and economic dimensions were not yet fully internalized and put into produce by teacher; Both students and teachers have the same perceptions on the extent of manifestation of values of teachers; most of the values along the individual, social, spiritual and economic dimensions were not fully evident in the behavior and conduct of teachers; The seriousness of the problems hampered the manifestation of the values of teachers along all dimensions and proposed plan to enhance the manifestation and internalization of values of teacher has been formulated.
