This study assessed the mathematics proficiency level of Grade 11 students in the First Congressional District of Batangas, focusing on four key domains: conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, problem-solving skills, and mathematical reasoning. Furthermore, it investigated the extent to which innovative teaching approaches were utilized in terms of lesson delivery methods, learning activities, and instructional resources. By examining these variables, the research aimed to determine if a significant relationship exists between the implementation of innovative pedagogical strategies and the resulting proficiency levels of the students.
The researcher employed a descriptive research design, utilizing a combination of survey questionnaires and qualitative interviews to collect data. The study was conducted to one hundred (100) senior high school Mathematics teachers, with the interviews providing deeper insights into the practical challenges encountered when integrating modern teaching techniques. This mixed-methods approach allowed for a comprehensive analysis of both the frequency of instructional use and the qualitative barriers to effective implementation.
The findings revealed that senior high school students have above-average proficiency in Mathematics, while teachers reported moderate use of innovative teaching approaches. Despite these positive indicators, several persistent challenges were identified: the administrative pressure to cover all curriculum competencies, a lack of prerequisite mastery among students, and the significant time required to plan and execute innovative lessons. Statistical analysis confirmed a significant relationship between the extent of utilization of these innovative approaches and the students' Mathematics proficiency. Based on these results, the study proposes the development of an instructional guide centered on innovative strategies to serve as a practical tool for teachers in fostering a more engaging and effective teaching-learning process.
