Abstract

The integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in educational institutions has become essential in enhancing teaching and learning processes. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of ICT integration at the University of Cagayan Valley by examining teachers' perceptions of its benefits, willingness, attitudes, and challenges in the instructional context. Using a quantitative descriptive-correlational research design, data were collected from 43 university teachers through a 41-item online questionnaire focusing on demographic profiles and perceptions of ICT integration in teaching and student learning. Descriptive and inferential statistics, including mean scores and tests of significance, were employed to analyze the results.

Findings revealed that respondents generally hold positive perceptions regarding the effectiveness of ICT integration in enhancing student learning, with a category mean score indicating agreement on its role in fostering creativity, engagement, and knowledge acquisition. However, perceptions about the effective elements supporting ICT integration, such as technical infrastructure, support, and professional development, were mixed and largely neutral, suggesting areas needing improvement. Furthermore, significant gender differences were noted, with male teachers perceiving greater effectiveness of ICT for student learning compared to female teachers. No significant differences in perceptions were found concerning teaching experience, academic qualifications, or teaching style preferences. Teachers’ ability to handle ICT also influenced their perception of its effectiveness in student learning.

The study concludes that while ICT integration is positively viewed as beneficial, challenges remain in infrastructure, training, and support that affect its full potential. It recommends that educational institutions develop targeted strategies to enhance ICT skills, address gender disparities, and improve technical and institutional support to maximize the advantages of ICT in teaching and learning.
