Abstract

This paper explores the evolving concept of gender and its implications for achieving gender equality within institutional and societal frameworks. Drawing upon feminist theories by key scholars such as Donna Haraway, Elaine Showalter, and Sandra Harding, the study examines how gender has been theorized beyond biological determinism to encompass cultural, psychological, and sociopolitical constructs. The analysis underscores the persistent challenges women face, including limited access to education, economic opportunities, healthcare, and political representation. It also highlights the detrimental impact of gender stereotypes and socially imposed roles on both women and men. With special focus on educational institutions as agents of change, the paper advocates for inclusive practices and awareness programs that empower all genders equally. Comparative data from global and Indian contexts illustrates the disparities and progress in gender equity efforts. The study concludes that true gender equality demands dismantling systemic barriers, reimagining gender roles, and fostering collaborative efforts among individuals, institutions, and governments to create a just and equitable society.
